This Project Grant award of $308,333 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (CFDA 10.500 Cooperative Extension Service) will support Purdue University's 4-H Youth Development Program in delivering mentoring and career exploration services to 60-75 at-risk youth in grades 8-12 in a key rural area of Indiana over three years. The project aims to improve self-concept, educational engagement, and career readiness, with the goal of increasing post-secondary enrollment rates among the target population compared to the general population. The mentoring model, informed by effectiveness practices, will utilize both school-based and community-based approaches, supplemented by 4-H Next Chapter Clubs and a summer experience program. In addition, the project will train 20-35 mentors to follow Indiana's Career Coach and Navigation Framework, improving their communication, relationship-building, and youth protection skills.
