The U.S. Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture awarded a $9,500,000 Project Grant to the CAL Poly Pomona Foundation Inc., a nonprofit organization, under the "From Learning to Leading: Cultivating the Next Generation of Diverse Food and Agriculture Professionals" program (CFDA 10.237). The 5-year "Building a Boulevard" project will provide mentoring and financial support to 418 students (200 master's, 180 undergraduate, and 38 community college) to work on career-advancing projects with faculty, gain discipline-specific knowledge, develop leadership and communication skills, and learn about USDA careers and pathways. The project will also fund student participation in professional and underrepresented minority conferences. As a result, student participants will increase their discipline-specific knowledge, leadership skills, awareness of USDA careers, research skills, and confidence - all critical for building a thriving food, agriculture, natural resource, and human science workforce.
