Tuskegee University will administer the Tuskegee University Food and Agricultural Scholars Program under this $526,315 Project Grant from the National Institute of Food and Agriculture within the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The goals of the program are to recruit, train, and prepare underrepresented minorities to enter careers or pursue further studies in the food and agricultural sciences through a multidisciplinary approach incorporating innovative recruiting, mentoring, experiential learning, and internship opportunities. Specifically, the grant will support eight students over four years to obtain B.S. degrees in animal, poultry and veterinary sciences and environmental, natural resource and plant sciences. This aligns with the goals of the Scholarships for Students at 1890 Institutions program (CFDA 10.524) to provide scholarships for students attending 1890 Land-Grant Institutions like Tuskegee University. The anticipated impact is an increase in underrepresented minority representation in food, agriculture, and related sciences careers.
