This five-year, four hundred ninety-nine thousand nine hundred seventy-six dollar Project Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture (USDA NIFA) Agriculture and Food Research Initiative (AFRI) program (CFDA 10.310) will support the Southern Connecticut State University Summer Undergraduate Fellows in Plant Health and Protection program. The program aims to provide ten undergraduate students per year from underrepresented groups with agricultural research experience through hands-on projects related to plant health under faculty mentorship. In addition to developing research skills, weekly enrichment activities are designed to build communication skills and career preparedness. Fellows will present their work at a final symposium and at the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station Plant Science Day. The goal is to increase access to agricultural research careers and make the program self-sustaining.
