The University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc. received a $295,960.44 Project Grant award from the US Department of Agriculture National Institute of Food and Agriculture under the Cooperative Extension Service program (CFDA 10.500) for the period of September 1, 2021 through August 31, 2022.
The award will support the development of four geographically dispersed specially trained small teams within the University of Georgia Extension System to build local capacity for readiness, response, and recovery to natural disasters and emergencies. Team members from each of the four Extension districts will receive specialized training in areas such as Community Emergency Response Team certification, food safety, mental health first aid, agricultural damage assessment, and incident command systems. The teams will then assist local Extension offices in increasing disaster preparedness, developing continuity of operations plans, and providing expertise during emergency responses and recoveries statewide.
