The Department of Agriculture's National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) awarded Southern University and A&M College $500,000.00 under the Scholarships for Students at 1890 Institutions program (CFDA 10.524) for the period of July 15, 2021 through July 14, 2025. The goal of this Project Grant is to positively impact recruitment, retention, baccalaureate degree obtainment, and progression of scholarship recipients in food and agricultural sciences and related fields through leveraging USDA/NIFA 1890 scholarship funds with other sources of student financial support. Approximately 50 full and 40 partial scholarship awards will be granted to students maintaining a minimum 2.8 GPA enrolled full-time in agricultural sciences, family and consumer sciences, and urban forestry and natural resources departments. Outcomes such as recruitment numbers, retention rates, degree progression, and employment in agricultural and natural resources workforces will be assessed.
