The Cherokee Nation received a $935,301 project grant award from the Department of Justice's Community Oriented Policing Services program on September 1, 2015 to provide equipment and training through August 31, 2018. Through this Public Safety Partnership and Community Policing Grants award, the Cherokee Nation will deliver resources to support the adoption of community policing strategies and collaborative partnerships between law enforcement and the communities they serve in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Funding will support organizational changes, problem solving practices, and the acquisition of technology and other equipment to facilitate community engagement and proactive responses to public safety issues.
