CATHOLIC CHARITIES DIOCESE OF GARY HAS BEEN THE SPONSORING AGENCY FOR THE FOSTER GRANDPARENT PROGRAM FOR EIGHTEEN YEARS. CATHOLIC CHARITIES IS A MULTI-PROGRAM, PRIVATE, NOT-FOR-PROFIT SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCY SERVING THE COMMUNITY IN NORTHWEST INDIANA. THE MISSION OF CATHOLIC CHARITIES IS TO PROVIDE AND ADVOCATE FOR THE PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND SOCIAL NEEDS OF THE POOR AND VULNERABLE IN THE FOUR COUNTIES OF THE DIOCESE OF GARY. ONCE AGAIN CATHOLIC CHARITIES IS REQUESTING STEWARDSHIP OF THIS PROGRAM FOR THE PERIOD OF 1/1/2018 THROUGH 12/31/2021. FORTY-NINE VOLUNTEERS WILL ASSIST CHILDREN IN THE PRIMARY FOCUS AREA EDUCATION-PERFORMANCE MEASURE OUTCOME K-12 SUCCESS AND SCHOOL READINESS. VOLUNTEERS WILL TUTOR/MENTOR TEACHER IDENTIFIED STUDENTS IN LITERACY OR MATH. ACTIVITIES WILL CONSIST OF BUT NOT LIMITED TO READING COMPREHENSION, WRITING, AND COMMUNICATION, IDENTIFICATION OF THE ALPHABET AND NUMBERS, MOTOR SKILLS AND RECOGNIZING COLORS. FORTY-FIVE VOLUNTEERS IN THE EDUCATION (K-12 SUCCESS, OUTPUT ED2, OUTCOME ED 27) WILL ASSIST 225 CHILDREN THROUGH MENTORING AND TUTORING TO HELP THEM IMPROVE THEIR ACADEMIC ENGAGEMENT. FOUR VOLUNTEERS WILL ASSIST 20 CHILDREN, (SCHOOL READINESS, OUTPUT ED2-OUTCOME ED 24) TO INCREASE THEIR LITERACY SKILLS. THE CORPORATION FOR NATIONAL AND COMMUNITY SERVICE FEDERAL INVESTMENT OF $214,155 ANNUALLY WILL BE SUPPLEMENTED BY $29,474 FROM CATHOLIC CHARITIES.
