DESCRIPTION:NORTHWEST INDIAN COLLEGE (NWIC) WILL CREATE A TRIBAL DRINKING WATER CERTIFICATE PROGRAM WITH THE OVERALL GOAL TO DEVELOP A WORKFORCE THAT HAS CONNECTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY SERVED AND TO SPECIFICALLY EMPOWER TRIBAL COMMUNITIES. NWIC'S PROPOSED PROJECT WILL DEVELOP A DRINKING WATER TRAINING CURRICULUM EMBEDDED WITHIN A CERTIFICATE PROGRAM.ACTIVITIES:THE NWIC WATER CERTIFICATION PROJECT WILL ESTABLISH AND DELIVER A CURRICULUM AND SUPPLY A CLASS WITH THE TOOLS AND LEARNING MATERIALS THAT LEADS STUDENTS TO A CERTIFICATION IN WATERWORKS OPERATOR CERTIFICATION FOR TRIBAL COMMUNITIES. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE A FEASIBILITY STUDY, COMMUNITY LISTENING SESSIONS, AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT OVER A TWO-YEAR PROJECT TIMELINE. EXPECTED OUTCOMES OF THE PROJECT ARE FOR STUDENTS TO GAIN A THEORETICAL AND PRACTICAL KNOWLEDGE OF THE FUNDAMENTALS OF WATER QUALITY, WATER TESTING, AND TO HAVE GAINED THE KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS NECESSARY TO PASS THE WASHINGTON STATE WATER MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATION.
