DESCRIPTION:THIS PROJECT WILL CREATE A TRIBAL TOXICS REDUCTION PROGRAM TO IDENTIFY, MANAGE AND IMPLEMENT TOXICS CLEANUP AND MITIGATION ACTIVITIES. THE PROGRAM WILL LEAD PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION OF PROJECTS THAT ADDRESS KNOWN TOXICS ISSUES ON THE SPOKANE INDIAN RESERVATION. THIS AGREEMENT WILL BE FUNDED UNDER THE INFRASTRUCTURE INVESTMENT AND JOBS ACT.ACTIVITIES:ACTIVITIES INCLUDE THE CLEANUP OF LEAD AT TWO SHOOTING RANGES IN THE CHAMOKANE CREEK WATERSHED, TESTING AND MITIGATION OF ARSENIC, METALS AND URANIUM IN GROUNDWATER AND DRINKING WATER SUPPLY WELLS, PILOT STUDIES INVESTIGATING THE EFFICACY OF REMEDIATION STRATEGIES TO PREVENT URANIUM LOADING INTO CHAMOKANE CREEK, AND CREATING A PLAN TO PREVENT EROSION AND SEDIMENT/TOXICS LOADING INTO WATERSHEDS ON THE RESERVATION AFFECTED BY RECENT WILDFIRES. THIS PROJECT WILL ALSO CREATE A DATABASE USED TO MONITOR SPATIAL AND TEMPORAL TRENDS IN TOXICS AND RELATED ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS THROUGHOUT ON THE UPPER COLUMBIA RIVER, SPOKANE RIVER, AND TRIBUTARIES ON THE RESERVATION. SUBRECIPIENT:NO SUBAWARDS ARE INCLUDED IN THIS ASSISTANCE AGREEMENT.OUTCOMES:ANTICIPATED DELIVERABLES FOR THIS PROJECT INCLUDE IDENTIFICATION OF HIGH-RISK TRIBAL AGRICULTURAL LEASE PROPERTIES, MODIFIED LEASE AGREEMENTS TO ACCOMMODATE VEGETATED FILTER STRIP IMPLEMENTATION, IMPLEMENTED VEGETATED FILTER STRIPS AND WETLAND REPLANTING ON TRIBAL AND NONTRIBAL PROPERTIES WITHIN THE RESERVATION, BASELINE MONITORING DATA FOR PESTICIDES IN WATERWAYS, PESTICIDE DISPOSAL, COMMUNITY OUTREACH THROUGH EVENTS AND MULTIMEDIA PRODUCTS, AS WELL AS QUARTERLY CHECK-INS, SEMI-ANNUAL REPORTS, AND A FINAL REPORT. THIS WILL BENEFIT COMMUNITIES THROUGHOUT THE WIDER COLUMBIA RIVER BASIN, SPECIFICALLY THE SPOKANE TRIBE OF THE SPOKANE RESERVATION.
