The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $500,000 Project Grant under the Environmental Justice Collaborative Problem-Solving (EJCPS) Cooperative Agreement Program (CFDA 66.306) to the Louisiana Bucket Brigade. The grant funds will be used to execute environmental cleanup and weatherization initiatives in three predominantly Black rural communities in St. James and Ascension Parishes, Louisiana. Specifically, the grant will support the cleanup of two non-hazardous, illegal dump sites, conduct weatherization assessments for 50 homes, and weatherize the first 2-5 homes. The project aims to foster a more pristine and dynamic community by reducing blight, minimizing storm-related debris risks, decreasing energy expenditures, and diminishing exposure to extreme heat for the targeted communities. The Louisiana Bucket Brigade will lead the overall project, with Inclusive Louisiana and Rural Roots Louisiana serving as sub-recipients to manage the home assessments and weatherization work, as well as coordinate the dump site cleanup efforts.
