The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded a $909,800 Project Grant under the National Estuary Program (CFDA 66.456) to the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) to support implementation of the Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary's Comprehensive Conservation and Management Plan. The key products and services to be delivered include:
A. Water quality monitoring and a home sewage assistance program in the upper Bayou Terrebonne watershed.
B. Evaluation of the long-term impacts of stormwater diversion on water quality and wetlands.
C. Development of a web-based interactive pathway for youth groups in coastal Louisiana to address environmental injustices.
D. Fostering the existing ecological-cultural economy and developing new amenities in six target communities within the Barataria-Terrebonne estuarine system.
E. Creation of a comprehensive library documenting the diversity of the Barataria-Terrebonne estuary.
F. Production of a podcast and radio show highlighting BTNEP's work with native and invasive species.
G. Identification of critical attractants to improve monitoring of biological control agents for the emerald ash borer.
