This $499,715 Project Grant awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) under the Surveys, Studies, Research, Investigations, Demonstrations, and Special Purpose Activities Relating to the Clean Air Act (CFDA 66.034) program will support the Charleston Community Research to Action Board (CCRAB) in South Carolina to conduct ambient air monitoring of pollutants of greatest concern in communities with environmental and health disparities.
The funding will enable CCRAB to establish a community air monitoring network in eight environmental justice communities, deploying high-gear monitors and residential screening monitors, providing capacity-building and educational programming, and developing data communication tools. This will build the communities' long-term capacity to monitor air pollution in real-time, understand air quality data and health impacts, and guide future air quality research and interventions. The project will also involve subawards to the LAMC for capacity building and to the MUSC Air Quality Lab for air monitoring data services.
