- This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's Engineering program (CFDA 47.041) provides $179,996 to The Research Foundation For The State University Of New York (RF SUNY) to develop new "biphasic charge carriers" for redox flow batteries (RFBs). The goal is to overcome limitations in energy density and materials availability for long-duration energy storage (LDES) technologies like RFBs, which are critical for enabling greater use of renewable energy. The research...
- This $7.99 million project grant from the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration's BUILD TO SCALE program will fund the Clean Fight NY initiative to strengthen New York's clean energy sector. Clean Fight NY will help address structural barriers facing growth-stage clean energy companies in New York through formalizing an adoption ecosystem that maximizes regional clean energy, customer, and capital assets. Specifically, Clean Fight NY will scale its core accelerator program...
- The Department of Energy awarded a $1,475,887 Project Grant under the Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chain Demonstrations and Commercial Applications program (CFDA 81.253) to the Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) in Syracuse, NY. The objective of this grant is to design and construct a fire-safe residential drop-off and sorting facility to segregate different battery chemistries prior to their delivery to recycling facilities. The facility will also include a...
- This $95,110,492 Cooperative Agreement award from the U.S. Department of Energy's Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chain Demonstrations and Commercial Applications program (CFDA 81.253) supports the establishment of a low-carbon, all-water-based, highly circular stationary storage battery plant based on Nanoramic, Inc.'s proprietary neocarbonix electrode technology. The award will enable Nanoramic, a small business based in Wakefield, MA, to develop advanced lithium-ion battery manufacturing...
- This $4,750,524 Cooperative Agreement award, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy under the Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chain Demonstrations and Commercial Applications program (CFDA 81.253), will support the County of Erie in establishing a robust and equitable collection system for consumer batteries of all types. The project aims to create a network of battery drop-off kiosks, collection partners, and collection events in Buffalo, NY to improve battery recycling and reduce reliance...
- The University of South Carolina (USC) was awarded a $11,595,140 Project Grant by the Economic Development Administration (EDA) under the Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs program (CFDA 11.039). The grant will enable USC, in collaboration with Fraunhofer and Siemens, to design and install a pilot manufacturing line at the USC Columbia campus. This line will enable testing and commercialization of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technologies to support grid resilience. The project will...
- This $3,000,000.00 Project Grant award from the Appalachian Regional Commission under the Appalachian Area Development (CFDA 23.002) program will support research and development activities to be performed by The Research Foundation for The State University of New York (RF SUNY) at its Binghamton campus. The award, effective September 1, 2023 through February 28, 2025, will enable RF SUNY to advance energy technologies and solutions that strengthen the Appalachian region's economy. As the fiscal...
- This $198,679,760 Project Grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) under the Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chain Demonstrations and Commercial Applications program (CFDA 81.253) supports the establishment of a 4 gigawatt-hour lithium-ion cell production facility by Enersys Advanced Systems Inc. in Piedmont, South Carolina. The project aims to replace foreign-sourced materials with domestic supply, create 500 permanent high-wage jobs and 400 construction jobs, and contribute to the...
THIS EDA INVESTMENT SUPPORTS THE NEW ENERGY NEW YORK COALITION, LED BY THE STATE UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK (SUNY) AT BINGHAMTON, WITH ACCELERATING BATTERY TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION IN NEW YORK BY TRANSFORMING NEW YORK'S SOUTHERN TIER INTO A GLOBAL HUB OF ENERGY STORAGE MANUFACTURING. THE PROJECTS FUNDED AS PART OF THIS AWARD INCLUDE BUILDING A LITHIUM-BASED BATTERY DEVELOPMENT MANUFACTURING FACILITY, THE BATTERY-NY CENTER, WHICH WILL PROVIDE TESTING, CERTIFICATION, AND SCALE-UP CAPACITY FOR NEW PRODUCTS AND COMPANIES. COMPLEMENTARY PROJECT LEADS WILL WORK WITH EXISTING MANUFACTURERS TO ESTABLISH THEM AS ELIGIBLE SUPPLIERS FOR ENERGY PRODUCTS; AND EXPAND WORKFORCE TRAINING PROGRAMS TO ADDRESS NEEDS OF THE GROWING CLUSTER. ONCE IMPLEMENTED, THE INVESTMENT WILL HELP DEVELOP AND STRENGTHEN REGIONAL INDUSTRY CLUSTERS - ALL WHILE EMBRACING ECONOMIC EQUITY, CREATING GOOD-PAYING JOBS, AND ENHANCING U.S. COMPETITIVENESS GLOBALLY.
