The Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) awarded an $8 million Project Grant under the Economic Adjustment Assistance (EAA) program to the Lonesome Pine Regional Industrial Facilities Authority. The grant will support construction of a building to host EarthLink, an internet support services company, in Duffield, Virginia. Key products and services include HVAC, plumbing, electrical and mechanical systems, a water line, loading dock, landscaping, sewer line, fire protection, and related infrastructure for the new building. The EAA program aims to assist regions facing adverse economic changes, and this project will help strengthen the local economy in Southwest Virginia which has faced significant downturn due to the decline of the coal industry. Upon completion, the project is expected to create job opportunities, attract private investment, and advance economic resiliency in the region.
