The Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) awarded an $11.3 million Project Grant to the Philadelphia Regional Port Authority (PRPA), also known as Philaport, on August 26, 2021 under the Investments for Public Works and Economic Development Facilities program (CFDA 11.300).

The funding will support PRPA's acquisition and installation of two new electric rubber-tired gantry cranes and associated infrastructure upgrades at the Port of Philadelphia-Camden (PAMT). The specially designed cranes allow for offloading of cargo directly from the far side of a vessel without requiring it to turn around in port, greatly reducing loading and unloading times. Given over 98% of cargo passing through PAMT is containerized, these faster cranes will significantly improve the port's efficiency in offloading containers. The project aims to strengthen the regional economy and is supported through a partnership with the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission.
