The Environmental Protection Agency Region 5 awarded a $1.46 million Project Grant to the Indiana Department of Environmental Management to support Indiana's Underground Storage Tank (UST) Program from October 2021 through September 2023.
The grant funding will assist Indiana's UST Program in leak detection, prevention and enforcement activities to meet the objectives of the federal Underground Storage Tank (UST) Prevention, Detection, and Compliance Program (CFDA #66.804). Specifically, the Indiana Department of Environmental Management will use the EPA grant funds to encourage UST owners and operators to properly operate and maintain their tanks, ensure owners and operators monitor tanks in accordance with regulations, and further develop Indiana's state UST program to assume primary oversight in lieu of federal management. These leak prevention efforts will help protect the environment by preventing petroleum and hazardous substance releases from underground storage tanks in Indiana.
