The State of New Mexico Public Education Department received a $10,410,030.00 Formula Grant award from the U.S. Department of Education Office of Elementary and Secondary Education on July 1, 2023. The funding supports the Student Support and Academic Enrichment Program (CFDA 84.424) to improve student academic achievement by increasing the capacity of state and local educational agencies, schools, and communities to provide students with access to a well-rounded education and improve school conditions. As the designated State Education Agency for New Mexico, the Public Education Department will use the grant funds to deliver a range of education products and services statewide, including coordinating federally-mandated student assessments like the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), disbursing Title I and other formula grant funds to local districts, and overseeing the delivery of services such as special education, career and technical education, English language acquisition, and school nutrition programs.
