The Department of Education Tennessee received a $23,990,794 federal 21ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTERS PROGRAM grant from the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Elementary and Secondary Education. This formula grant, with a project period from July 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025, supports the establishment and expansion of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities for students, particularly those attending high-poverty and low-performing schools. Through this program, the Department of Education Tennessee will deliver a range of educational and developmental services, such as tutoring, mentoring, homework assistance, academic enrichment, community service, and extracurricular activities.

The Department of Education Tennessee has also awarded 21st CCLC sub-grants to various local school districts, county governments, non-profits, and other state agencies across Tennessee to facilitate the delivery of these community learning center services. Subrecipients include entities such as Marshall County Board of Education, Unicoi County Board of Education, Jackson County Board of Education, and County of Carter, among others. These sub-grantees will use the federal funds to provide specialized instruction, academic support, career training, student meals, and other enrichment programming to students in their local communities.
