The U.S. Federal Transit Administration (FTA) awarded a $2,817,319 Formula Grant under the Formula Grants for Rural Areas and Tribal Transit Program (CFDA 20.509) to the Alaska State Department of Public Transportation (AKDOT). The grant funds will support operating assistance, rural transit assistance programs (RTAP), and state administration to continue public transportation services across the state of Alaska, including in the cities of Bethel, Juneau, Ketchikan, Kodiak, and Soldotna. As part of the grant, AKDOT has provided sub-awards to the City of Bethel ($250,000), Senior Citizens of Kodiak Inc. ($250,000), and Central Area Rural Transit System Inc. ($250,000) to further support the ongoing operation of public transit systems in those respective communities. The grant has a performance period from June 3, 2024 to March 31, 2026.
