The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) received a $596,996 Cooperative Agreement from the National Cancer Institute under the Cancer Cause and Prevention Research program (CFDA 93.393), effective April 1, 2026, through February 29, 2028. This award supports the BUNDLE (Bundled Outreach of Multiple Cancer Screenings for Under-Screened Populations) study, a collaborative initiative between OHSU's Knight Cancer Institute, the Oregon Rural Practice-Based Research Network, and the University of North Carolina Comprehensive Cancer Center. The project addresses low screening rates for guideline-concordant cancer screenings (lung, breast, colorectal, and cervical) by adapting previously tested multicomponent outreach interventions to promote multiple cancer screenings simultaneously, with particular focus on underserved populations including rural, low-income, and uninsured individuals. During this two-year planning phase (UG3), OHSU will deliver research services including intervention adaptation through user-centered design, pilot testing and feasibility assessment of the multicomponent outreach materials and processes, evaluation of intervention acceptability and preliminary effectiveness, and preparation for the subsequent four-year trial execution phase. The project will engage at least 18 primary care clinics across Oregon and North Carolina and reach more than 1,600 patients with coordinated outreach interventions utilizing text messaging, mailings, and patient navigation services designed to increase cancer screening completion rates compared to usual care.
