The National Cancer Institute (NCI) has awarded a 5-year, $1,212,634 Cooperative Agreement (U01CA295049) to Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) to investigate two potential Kaposi's Sarcoma-Associated Herpesvirus (KSHV) vaccine targets and compare two vaccine strategies - mRNA-lipid nanoparticles (mRNA-LNPs) and a novel CD180-targeted platform. The overall goal is to evaluate these approaches in the rhesus macaque rhadinovirus (RRV)/rhesus macaque (RM) model to stimulate cell-mediated and humoral immune responses against KSHV antigens K8.1 and vIL-6 in both immunocompetent and immunosuppressed animals prior to oral RRV challenge and infection. OHSU has also issued a $555,120 sub-award to Abacus Bioscience Inc. to support development and testing of the CD180-targeted vaccine platform as part of this project.
