The Environmental Protection Agency Region 8 awarded a $300,000 Cooperative Agreement to the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes under the Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup Cooperative Agreements program (CFDA 66.818). The funding will support the Tribes' efforts to inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct cleanup planning and community involvement activities for brownfield sites on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Montana from October 1, 2021 through September 30, 2024. Specifically, the project will focus on assessment and reuse planning of the largest abandoned sawmills on the Reservation, as well as dilapidated corridors of former fueling and auto repair businesses in the tourist towns of Hot Springs and Ravalli. The Brownfields program aims to facilitate the cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated properties.
