The Department of Health Care Finance (DHCF) in the District of Columbia was awarded a $17 million, 10-year Cooperative Agreement from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) under the Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model (CFDA 93.869). The purpose of this award is to improve maternal health outcomes for Medicaid and CHIP beneficiaries in the District by implementing comprehensive maternal health care delivery and payment system reforms.
Specifically, the grant funding will enable DHCF to: (1) build staff capacity to implement care delivery and value-based payment reforms; (2) leverage contractor support for practice transformation and actuarial analysis; (3) learn from the experience of the maternal health workforce and beneficiaries; and (4) invest in provider capacity through infrastructure improvements and quality initiatives. The goal is to promote a whole-person care approach to pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum care to reduce low-risk cesarean sections, severe maternal morbidity, and low birthweight infant rates while improving patient experience.
