The Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE) Division of Management and Budget was awarded a $12,370,219 Cooperative Agreement under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' (CMS) Transforming Maternal Health (TMaH) Model program (CFDA 93.869). The purpose of the award is to implement a comprehensive maternal health care delivery and payment system reform initiative in Kansas. The key activities include: enhancing data infrastructure and integrating Medicaid claims data with vital records; developing and implementing a new provider payment model to incentivize high-quality maternal care and outcomes; supporting the implementation of maternal health safety bundles and "birthing friendly" hospital designations; growing the perinatal community health worker workforce; and expanding access to telehealth, home visits, and mobile clinics. The award aims to reduce low-risk C-sections, severe maternal morbidity, and low birthweight infant rates, while improving the overall patient experience of perinatal care in Kansas. The 10-year project period runs from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2034.
