The Environmental Protection Agency Region 1 awarded the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission a $500,000 Cooperative Agreement under the Brownfields Multipurpose, Assessment, Revolving Loan Fund, and Cleanup Cooperative Agreements program (CFDA 66.818). From October 2022 through September 2026, the Berkshire Regional Planning Commission will conduct eligible assessment-related activities authorized under CERLCA 104(K)(2) in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. Specifically, the Commission will inventory, characterize, assess, and conduct cleanup planning and community involvement activities for 16 brownfield sites. It will competitively procure environmental professionals to perform eight Phase I and eight Phase II environmental site assessments. The Commission will also hold four community meetings, develop four site-specific cleanup plans/analyses of brownfield cleanup alternatives, and create four planning documents to initiate brownfield revitalization projects. It will submit quarterly reports on progress and accomplishments using EPA's ACRES system. The work will benefit residents, businesses and communities in and around Berkshire County.
