This contract award to Boulder Nonlinear Systems Inc. is for the development of a programmable phase nulling interferometer that extends the capability of a computer generated hologram (CGH) to null test a range of meter class telescope mirrors. The $113,030.00 Phase I Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) requires the construction of a brassboard Twyman-Green interferometer system with a 512x512 spatial light modulator (SLM) that can null the phase error from a 10 inch parabolic mirror without the use of a CGH. The goal is to enable the null testing of a range of mirrors with a single CGH design. The prototype will be modularly integrated with a CGH-based interferometric test setup. This SBIR Phase I award supports the research and development of the specialized optics and interferometry capabilities of Boulder Nonlinear Systems, which has a history of providing beam steering, 3D imaging, and other custom light control solutions to federal agencies.
