- The University of Arizona, doing business as the Arizona Board of Regents, was awarded a $52,000 grant by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to conduct an XMM Legacy Survey of James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) ASPIRE quasars, providing a panchromatic view of z > 6.5 quasars. This research grant, awarded on July 30, 2024, aims to advance the scientific understanding of high-redshift quasars and their role in the early universe. The University of Arizona, as a major...
The University of Arizona, doing business as the Arizona Board of Regents, was awarded a $277,639.15 grant (Contract # 80NSSC19K0578) by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to support research on Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) using observations from the Swift mission's Ultraviolet/Optical Telescope (UVOT). The research aims to dramatically increase the UVOT sample of narrow-normal and faint SNe Ia, and enhance the sample with observations in other wavelengths to better understand the differences in supernova emission, explosion physics, and progenitors. This work will determine whether the narrow-normal SNe Ia are consistent with the existing luminosity-width relation, and investigate the nature of the bi-modality in fast-declining SNe Ia. The research is expected to advance theoretical understanding of SNe Ia and support future high-redshift supernova surveys. This grant does not have a set-aside designation and is set to complete by December 31, 2023.
