The contract is not set aside for any specific business type. UAH, a public research university and non-profit educational institution, has a robust track record of delivering sophisticated research and development services to federal agencies like...
- The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) received a $537,491.73 research grant from a civilian federal agency's Shared Services Center, awarded on March 6, 2020, with an ultimate completion date of December 1, 2024. This non-competitive grant supports activities centered on TEMPO data applications, including the development of deliverables, facilitation of collaborative meetings and workshops for TEMPO data product users, and comprehensive outcome reporting. The work will be performed in...
- The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) was awarded a $155,427 grant on January 1, 2023, to enhance air quality applications in the Hindu-Kush Himalaya region through remote sensing, modeling, and machine learning techniques. This civilian research award, which concluded December 31, 2024, addresses the Weather and Climate Thematic Service Area under the SERVIR Applied Sciences Team solicitation, specifically supporting the SERVIR-Hindu Kush Himalaya regional hub. The project targets...
- This federal contract award to the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is for a research project titled "Evolution of Lightning Energetics and the Relationship to Severe Weather." The $298,893 grant is funded by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to investigate the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) instrument on the GOES-R satellite. The research aims to develop new algorithms to better utilize GLM data and relate lightning activity to storm dynamics...
- The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) was awarded a $658,369 research grant by NASA on October 1, 2020, with an ultimate completion date of September 30, 2026. This civilian research grant supports investigations into the solar wind—the continuous streams of charged particles emitted by the Sun that transport energy and magnetic fields through interplanetary space to the heliospheric boundary. The project leverages in situ observations collected by NASA's fleet of spacecraft positioned...
- This federal contract award to the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) is for a project to improve the representation of the physical atmosphere in air quality management decision support tools (DSTs) used for emissions control strategy development under State Implementation Plans (SIPs) to meet Clean Air Act health effects standards. The $1,046,854 grant will allow UAH to incorporate NASA satellite products such as surface skin temperature, insolation, and albedo into the Weather Research...
- NASA awarded a $59,938 research grant to the Research Foundation of the City University of New York (RFCUNY), operating through City College, for ozone LIDAR observations and air quality studies in the New York City area. The project, which commenced on January 1, 2023, and concludes on December 31, 2024, supports NASA's Atmospheric Tomography Mission (STAQS) and validates products from the Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution (TEMPO) instrument. LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging)...
- The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) awarded a $133,026 grant for research to the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH), a public research university. The grant supports an investigation into two unsolved problems related to solar wind turbulence and suprathermal electrons in the solar wind electron velocity distribution functions. The research aims to advance the understanding of the origin and evolution of the solar wind, which is a key focus area for the upcoming...
- This is a $239,997.00 grant awarded by NASA to the Research Foundation of the City University of New York (RFCUNY) for a project titled "Ozone Lidar Observations and Application to Air Quality Studies in NYC Metro Region as Part of NASA TOLNET and in Support of NASA TEMPO Product Validation". The grant, which has a period of performance through May 27, 2028, will fund research and observations using ozone lidar technology to support NASA's Tropospheric Ozone Lidar Network (TOLNET)...
The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) has been awarded a $1,336,697.00 grant from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to continue its Tropospheric Ozone Lidar Network (TOLNET) program. This program has been providing tropospheric ozone profile data since 2008 to support various scientific investigations, including research on low-level ozone transport, stratosphere-troposphere interaction, model evaluation, chemical production in biomass burning smoke transport, and lightning-induced nitrogen oxides. Over the next five years, UAH will use the grant funds to 1) continue routine lidar observations and data archiving to support NASA's Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution (TEMPO) satellite validation mission, 2) conduct scientific research using the lidar data, 3) finish construction of a mobile lidar and scanning system to support future field campaigns, and 4) enhance collaboration between TOLNET and the modeling/satellite community. This work will help fill the upper-air gap between surface monitoring networks and global satellite observations to support air quality research and decision-making.
