Sierra Nevada Corporation has been awarded a definitive cost-plus-fixed-fee contract by the Office of Naval Research (ONR) to develop an advanced minesweeping payload technology for the Mine Countermeasure Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MCM-USV) program. With a value of $1.5 million, the contract will see Sierra Nevada conduct the development, fabrication, integration and demonstration of the Magnetic and Acoustic Generation Next Unmanned Superconducting Sweep (MAGNUSS) payload. The MAGNUSS program, an ONR Future Naval Capabilities effort taking place from FY2022 to FY2024, aims to produce an advanced payload composed of a high-temperature superconducting magnetic source and acoustic generator. Sierra Nevada will perform this work over a two-year period at its Sparks, Nevada facility under ONR's MCM-USV program, which is developing an unmanned system for naval mine countermeasures.
